Subsea Industries is a pioneer in the development of hard hull coating systems and underwater cleaning equipment. Founded in 1983 by Boud Van Rompay, the company was established with a mission to eliminate the environmental impact of toxic antifouling paints. Based in Antwerp, Belgium, Subsea Industries works in tandem with its sister company, Hydrex, to provide a “total solution” for ship hull maintenance that combines durable protection with efficient underwater cleaning.

As a specialist in surface treatment, Subsea Industries is best known for Ecospeed, a revolutionary hull coating system. Unlike traditional antifouling paints that leach chemicals into the sea, Ecospeed is a non-toxic, glassflake-reinforced hard coating. It is designed to last the entire service life of the vessel without the need for replacement. Its incredibly smooth and durable surface allows for regular underwater cleaning without damaging the coating, resulting in significant fuel savings and zero environmental harm.

In addition to coatings, Subsea Industries manufactures a complete range of underwater cleaning equipment designed specifically for this “hard coating” philosophy. Their “Typhoon” series of cleaning machines, including the MC131 and MC313, are engineered to remove all types of marine fouling—from light slime to heavy barnacles. These hydraulic brush carts are robust, easy to maneuver, and designed to polish the hull surface rather than erode it, ensuring that vessels maintain peak hydrodynamic efficiency.
